People sometimes greet one another with the expression “stay healthy” or “take care”. Taken literally, it means you should strive to maintain a good healthy body. People may be loosely expressing it as a social greeting or gently implying that you don’t look well and should do something to improve your health. In either case, whether it be a gentle salutation or a subtle remark, there is no harm in taking the suggestion to keep fit and stay healthy. Try some of these recommendations.

Maintain a positive attitude. Start your day with a positive thought. Negative thoughts bring bad vibes and will most certainly ruin the day. Don’t wake up in a bad mood and spoil the day without giving it a chance to make your day bright and cheerful. Try waking up with the gratefulness that you are still alive. Positive thoughts help block out the stress and puts you in a serene and healthy mood.

Being overweight greatly affects your body. For example, your heart may be stressed as it has to pump faster and your bones may be strained in carrying the extra weight. You might also be short of breath most times. Dieting is one approach to reduce weight. However, people want to lose weight fast and may resort to crash dieting. The risk in crash dieting is that the resulting loss may be due to insufficient water and not the unwanted fat. Water is important to our body and this sudden loss could affect our health and metabolism. Whatever diet you undertake should be with medical supervision.

Keep yourself properly hydrated. More than 50% of our body is water and any lack of water will affect our body functions. Do you notice that when we are thirsty, we cannot think nor function well? Our thoughts are focused on a craving for some drinks. Drinking liquids, such as soda pop or coffee, does not quench the thirst as effectively as water. Sometimes they aggravate the thirst.  Eating foods that contain a lot of liquid such as fruits is good too.

Take time out to relax. When you are constantly working, the pressure and tension builds up and eventually affects your thinking and body. People who are constantly at meetings spend hours discussing and resolving issues. These stressful environments greatly affect our health. Try to have some logical breaks in your work. If you are in meetings, try to leave the session for a short period to relax and gather your thoughts. It is suggested that people who work on a computer should rest their eyes regularly and move around to stretch their muscles. There are ergonomic chairs to help maintain a good relaxed posture.

Do some regular exercises. Exercising keeps your body fit. There are various exercises for developing different parts of the body. In addition, exercising helps build up your immunity to diseases. For some people, it also acts as an outlet for stresses and pressures that may have built up during the day. Do not over-exercise. Consult your doctor on the type and extent of exercises that you can do.

Have regular check-ups and consult your doctor on the results. You may be healthy at that moment but the doctor knows best how you should maintain your healthy condition.
