Optimize Your Day

Search Amazon.com for Personal Development assistance

A day consists of 24 hours, no more, no less. Every day, you are given 24 hours to live your life. Within those 24 hours, you should be able to accomplish everything you need to do for the day. How do you do that? Slice the time to hours and determine what activities are to be done on a per hour basis. If the tasks can be accomplished quickly, break down your hours into minutes or try combining some activities together to make an hour. It will depend on how important those activities are and which activities you want highlighted.

During a work day, a large amount of time is devoted to your work. If you are an employee, the norm is you go to work and do your job until it’s time to stop working. As a self-employed person, it becomes slightly complex since you depend on yourself for a regular income. If you don’t do good, your income will suffer more than a person who is guaranteed a salary regardless of performance. The disadvantage however is the salaried employee might not get any further pay increases unlike the self-employed who can earn a large amount of money depending on their initiative and capabilities. The bottom line is - try to earn as much as possible. Since 24 hours is fixed, you should try to optimize the allotted time. Ensure that the time was well spent.

Plan your daily activities. There will be routine and administrative work that needs to be done daily. Also there are regular house chores that need attending. These are essential daily activities but do not help augment your income. In fact, it may even be a stumbling block for you to earn additional income. The quandary is that it needs to be done to lead a neat, orderly and organized life and you “waste” time on these chores. Review those activities and see how you can accomplish them in a shorter time. There may be new technological equipment or appliances that could improve your work and shorten the time to accomplish them. Look at the possibility of assigning the tasks to other members of the household or workplace. You can offer members in the household some monetary compensation to do the tasks for you. This is feasible if the time you saved will earn you additional income. People in your workplace may be doing similar administrative tasks like yours and it may be more logical to have one person do all similar administrative tasks rather than spread it among different people, including yourself.

Look at the “wasted time” on a daily basis. It may not appear “wasteful” since these are activities that must be done, such as traveling and rest time.  Review  your trips and see if you are spending more than the normal time for traveling. Is it possible that you are on the road when the traffic is heaviest? Can you cut your travel time if you opt to go on the road at a different time? Sometimes, it’s faster to commute rather than drive your own vehicle. It may be slightly inconvenient as you are bunched together with many people in the train or bus. Use the time to strike new acquaintances. You might be able to close some business deals along the way.  Be productive during your coffee breaks. Socialize with others at the coffee stand and learn what’s happening around the office.

If you are an employee, see how you can do your work more efficiently and effectively. The boss may notice your excellent performance and give you an increase or even a promotion. Use the time you saved in your work place to learn other work. Offer to help other people in their work.  Don’t use the saved time to do sidelines as this might not be allowed in the workplace.  If you are self-employed, look for alternatives and options to boost your sales. Use technology to handle the administration aspects of your business.

Remember there are only 24 hours in a day. Use it wisely.

Be Excellent or Perfect

Search Amazon.com for Personal Development assistance

Although both, excellence and perfection result in the accomplishment of a job, there is a distinct difference between the two. Perfectionism is attempting to complete a job in the most perfect way. The results can be seen as only black and white, and anything other than that implies failure. Perfection is hard to achieve because of change. Trying to be perfect in a field means the conditions should be consistent and not subjected to change. Any change will require a redefinition of what should be considered perfect.

Excellence, on the other hand aims to be the best in the job. Success implies you are the best in the field and not necessarily perfect in the endeavor. Excellence works in conjunction with evolution and change. Work is dynamic and is subject to changes over time. Your goal is to complete the work in an excellent manner. The pursuit of excellence focuses on the process of achieving the goal rather than the effect.

Perfectionism is idealistic and may be futile and counterproductive. In your efforts to improve yourself, you might be seeking to be perfect in all aspects. Holding yourself in high esteem is noble but it may not be worth the effort. Here are a few comments on the futility of perfectionism and the benefits of pursuing excellence.

Foremost, perfection is subjective. People cannot agree on what makes anything perfect. Your concept of a perfect body may differ from other people. People can produce supporting facts to define a perfect body but getting a universal agreement is highly improbable. There are some exceptions such as Olympic events which follow prescribed rules and policies. Gymnasts follow a regimented procedure which if done excellently and without flaw may result in a perfect score. All other aspects have no perfection goals but rather degrees of excellence. When you are given a task, you try to complete it as excellently as possible. There are no regimented rules nor policies that define a perfect completion to the task. You can redo your work endlessly and try to achieve perfection but bear in mind that your idea of perfection might be different from that of your boss. It is advisable to complete the job as well as you can and move on to other tasks. Try to make efficient and effective use of your time and skills.

Perfectionists tend to lead a mundane life. By trying to achieve perfection in their careers, they lose track and neglect other aspects, such as their social life. You should try to develop a well rounded personality and character. Focus on achievable goals. Move forward from one goal to the next, achieving each objective as excellently as possible. Don’t try to perfect the completion of a goal as this will waste your time and effort. Learn to strive for excellence in your endeavors.

Dont Let Money Go Down the Drain

Search Amazon.com for Personal Development assistance

When it comes to money, most can never get enough of it. Have you noticed that when you earn more, your needs also increase? Soon, you’ll even wonder how you manage to scrape through with the measly salary you first earned. You always think that if you earned more, you’ll be able to live in the lap of luxury. Then, you get your increase but you still find yourself stuck in a rut? Why is that? First of all, you just don’t know how to handle your money. Well, don’t fret because you’re not alone. This problem is actually more common than you think. You end up buying more things when you’re at the grocery, and these are the things you never even considered in the first place. You’re okay with it because these are relatively cheap, but what you didn’t realize is that when you add them all up, they also cost a lot. There are just seemingly harmless things you never even considered.

Well, you can finally gain control of your cash flow and stop them from going down the drain. How do you do that? First of all, you need to make a budget. This has to be very comprehensive. Leave nothing out especially when you know that you really do get to buy these items though they’re not part of your basic needs. You’ll never get to save if you get impulsive. Sure, you’ve been raving about that shirt you saw the other day, and then you keep telling yourself that this will be your last splurge. This is where you get to see what areas you can skimp on.

Budget for the big stuff and give yourself an allowance. This is the money you can spend on everything else as long as these items aren’t part of your basic needs. This will be like your clothing or restaurant fund. The next time you go out with friends, you actually have an idea how much you can bring. If you have extra money, try to discipline yourself and put that into your savings account instead. The money can be for rainy days. At least you know that you have some cash set aside should an emergency arise.

Moreover, don’t try to use your credit card too much. If you can pay in cash, then do so. The interest rates also take out a lot on your budget. You need to be smart about where every cent goes and paying in cash is still the safest way to go. Aside from that, carrying around a large sum of money has its psychological effects. It’s harder to break a bill in your pocket. And most importantly, this is when you’ll learn that spending cash does hurt, especially when you see the money leave your hand.

Right now, you have to stick to your budget. This isn’t about what you can do. A budget is simply there to tell you where your money should go. Write it down and stick to it. It takes willpower but the pay-offs are more than worth it.

Be Honest about Your Health

Search Amazon.com for Personal Development assistance

It’s your doctor’s job to ask you about your medical history and daily habits. Some of your answers may get you into trouble, so you think about withholding the truth or lying altogether. These little health fibs could actually backfire on you. Of course, so many people have done this at one point in their lives. This isn’t to say that you can still do it. After all, it could backfire on you. Your doctor won’t be able to give you the correct diagnosis if you don’t give him all the details. These are the things he needs to give you the treatment you need, and what you’re holding back could be that one thing that destroys you in the end.

If you really want to prevent bigger things from happening, it’s time to fess up and face repercussions. You may get the look of disapproval from your doc, but they will appreciate you for it in the end. If you’ve been asked to stay away from alcohol, you need to say exactly how many glasses you’ve had for the week. Doctors somehow practice an unspoken rule: they double the amount you tell them just to be on the safe side. Medicines and alcohol don’t always mix well. If your doctor knows that you have something in your system, they may be able to prescribe a medicine that doesn’t get affected with the drinks you’ve taken. If you’re not careful about this, your liver and kidneys could end up paying the high price.

Then, your doctor may tell you to always watch what you eat. This can be a challenge especially for people who like eating out. When you’re with friends, it’s so easy to go on a binging spree. If you’re blood and cholesterol levels are somewhat tipping toward the dangerous, you need to come clean. If he asks you to watch what you take, do it or else you’ll be subjected to a series of medical tests that are actually a lot more expensive. Not only are you saving your health, but you may be able to avoid extra expense just by telling the truth. If you suffer from the Pinocchio syndrome, it’s time to accept reality and just take what you deserve. Plus, the truth hurts a lot less compared to what you may be going through should you be prescribed the wrong kind of medication.

Lying can actually open a Pandora’s Box of bigger problems. Your specialist needs to know both good and bad health habits you imbibe. They’re also human too and they know a lot about weakness. Sure, they may bombard you with endless diatribes, but that’s just part of their job. And besides, whatever is shared in the room stays there. That’s part of their oath as doctors. These bad habits could leave you more prone to illnesses. And if you’re really not ready to quit, at least you can have the help that you need to cope with the inconvenience of living too vicariously.

Fight Off Fatigue

Search Amazon.com for Personal Development assistance

You try to exercise as much as you can, but the constant work sometimes can get to you. You no longer look forward to going to the gym the way you used to. Instead, you come up with any excuse just to get a free pass. Your body is now more tired than ever, and as much as you try to push yourself further, nothing really happens. So, it’s time to let your mind do the work. You need to work on your attitude and change things up a bit so you will once again look forward to your gym workouts. To make your activities easier, you need to fantasize and imagine a world beyond the place you’re in.

You’re on a treadmill and instead of counting the minutes left, you could actually picture yourself in a contest. Go big and think about being one of the athletes in the Olympics. You’re now trying to outrun the player just behind you. This allows you to push yourself even further. Hold onto that image until you win the gold medal. If that’s not your thing, you can also use your surroundings to inspire you. Pick an object you can focus on.

You could even watch the people around you while you run and make up stories about them. It’s all about harmless fun that no one has to know about. And because these are things you can keep to yourself, you can make up outrageous scenarios and not think twice about feeling guilty. Or, you could also be the center of the storyline you’ve created in your head. Put on your headphones and listen to songs that tickly your funny bones. Most people think that the songs have to match the pace you’re in, but the truth is, it works better with music you truly enjoy. Then, listen to the lyrics and imagine how you can relate to the song. You won’t notice the time when you throw yourself into the story, and pretty soon, you’ll see your workout as your time to explore.

Before you drive yourself to the gym, plan ahead. Think about what you’ll be mulling over and plan steps until you get to the resolution. If you’re having problems at work, this could be the perfect time for you to see things in a different light and actually come up with a plausible solution. Talk to yourself and be your own coach. Never stop believing that you’ll be able to do it. Once you give up, the workout will be a waste of time.

Of course you can get sick and tired of certain routines. Most people just can’t do the same thing over and over again. Add spice and let your imagination soar. That way, you always make things somehow different. This is what makes things more interesting. When you exercise, it’s not your body that allows you to go far. Instead, you need to totally rely on your mind so you can get yourself to the end and become a success.

Ace that Job Interview

Search Amazon.com for Personal Development assistance

In today’s world, good jobs don’t come by to often. Sure, you can always work for something that you don’t even specialize in, but it seems as if landing that coveted position is next to impossible, especially when you have competition coming in from all sides. Right now, you need to be at the very top of your game to make a future stable and solid enough to get you through life unscathed. So, you’re on a job hunt. The first thing you need to do is dress the part. You need to understand the company’s culture so you know what to exactly wear. However, many corporations are going casual. While you can practically wear whatever you want, you also need to let the people know that you’re serious about your application. Never reveal too much skin and make sure to never take the sexy route. You want people to see you as someone reliable, and you just can’t do that when all they can stare at is your cleavage.

More importantly, always be on time for the interview. Take into consideration traffic and road blocks. You may need to leave extra early, and while you may find yourself with a lot of time in your hands once you reach your destination, you also will let the interviewer know that you’re keen about working for them. Plus, you won’t look frazzled when you arrive early. You have time to take in deep, purposeful breaths and calm your nerves. And once you’re escorted inside the room, always look at the interviewer in the eye when you greet them. A nice, firm handshake always does the trick. Be cordial, but not overly friendly. Be warm, but don’t be too forward.

You can even dazzle your future boss with small talk. Go over the common questions asked during job interviews and think about the most impressive yet honest answer you can give. Also ask others what the reasonable salary rate would be. You can also decide on the least amount you can go for. However, never be the first one to bring this topic up. Let them ask questions and only give your salary expectations once the question has been addressed to you. It’s bound to come up sooner or later. Right now, you need to make the person see why hiring you would be an advantage to the company. And when the interviewer talks about job expectations, lean forward and show your interest. You may even throw in a couple of remarkable ideas, and one way to do this is to research on the latest trends of thee position you’ll be applying for.

Of course, you will also be asked about your strengths and weaknesses. Be honest about your credentials, and let them know what you need to work on. Nonetheless, you can also let them know that you’re working on the skill and open to mastering new talents. The point here is to never lie because these things catch up on you should you get hired, and these will only reflect poorly on you.

Making Workouts More Interesting

Search Amazon.com for health and beauty assistance

Sometimes, working out as a couple can be so much more interesting. For most ladies, it’s certainly a whole lot easier than having to drag their guy to the nearest shopping mall. While your bodies have been built differently and you need to do different workouts, you can still be each other’s coach and driving force. In fact, research has revealed that women working out with their partner lose more weight than the ones who do it alone. Plus, this could be a chance for the two of you to actually bond and be closer together. Try it because it does have its advantages.

Even if your personalities differ from each other, you can still do something about it. Once you feel healthier, you’ll have more stamina to do most anything, and for that reason alone, you two could actually egg each other one to strive harder. So, you can come up with a strategy wherein you can do some of the exercises together. After all, men can be more goal-oriented than women. So, you can actually plan out rewards when you’ve reached specific goals. It’s all about incentive after you try hard. This could get you two addicted and will even have this friendly competition so you’ll see who can be the better challenger. If gyms aren’t your thing, you could get into sports that would require a partner. That way, you’ll also harness team spirit and plan together so you can strategize your moves until you reach success. Just never forget to have fun along the way.

When dealing with weights, your goal is to tone your body while your man may want to bulk up. Lifting weights aren’t going to turn you into those overly-muscled people you see in fitness and wrestling magazines. Just plan your approach and know which muscle groups to target. There are moves you can do together. Hey, you can even spot for him. That way, he’ll be more encouraged to do more. Let him do the same for you as well. Don’t let the weight differences in the dumbbells intimidate you. Likewise, if you see him struggling, you can show him how starting slow can actually be better. Never make fun of some of the things he won’t be able to do. Instead, encourage him more and shower him with praises. You’ll soon see him following suite and doing the same things for you.

Okay, so you’ve turned out to be such fanatics. You both can’t help it when you see what a big difference the workouts have made in your lives. As mentioned earlier, it’s all about playful competition. Change up the routine as well because once your bodies sense that you’re both doing the same things over and over again, your metabolism slows down. Alternate your routines and shock your muscles every time you do something. Talk about what you can do and if you insist about sticking through everything together, you can alternate between activities that you like. At the end, you’ll both be happy whenever you head out of the house to hit the gym.

When Weight Gain Lowers Your Self-Esteem

Search Amazon.com for Personal Development assistance

If there was a place where you could eat anything you wanted and never gain a single pound, everybody would be fighting citizenship for that country. Unfortunately, reality is much tougher than that. When you don’t think about what you eat, your health suffers. You suddenly see the scales tip and your clothes start to feel fighter. The gain becomes even more pronounced when you age, and that’s because your metabolism starts to slow down when you reach 30. When you no longer feel that you look good, your self-esteem goes down the drain. You start feeling conscious about almost anything. If you could wear a sack just to hide your body, you would have done that long ago.

What you need to do right now is think about what you eat and when you exercise. These two things must go hand-in-hand. Exercise builds muscle strength and endurance while your meals give you the energy to get through even the toughest of days. So, stop snacking every time you’re not doing anything. Or, you could stock your refrigerator with healthy meals so you won’t feel guilty when you binge. Getting used to this new lifestyle can be quite difficult, especially when you love junk and sweets. So, give yourself a day of reward. This is that one day in the week where you allow yourself to give in to cravings. That way, the sacrifice doesn’t seem like too much of a torture. Time is your best ally and if you stick to this new routine, things will get easier. Things even get better when you start reaping the benefits. Soon, you can’t even imagine going back to your old lifestyle.

As easy as all these sound, your willpower can be your weakness. But you need to stick to your resolve. A lot of people who suffer from obesity had to endure snide remarks from the people around them. You can’t help but meet rude and uneducated people in your life. There’s nothing you can do about this, but you will have full control of what you can actually do with your body. Check out your nearest grocery store because you’ll be surprised at the number of healthy treats available. Invest on these and stay away from the isle that’s stocked with junk. If you need to enjoy a sinful treat or two, get it a day before or on the day itself. That way, you don’t have things to tempt you while you’re at home.

You’ll surprise yourself at just how far you can go if you just set your mind to it. People you’ll meet will no longer notice your weight. And that’s partially because you become more confident in putting yourself out there. You can now look at your old pictures and be proud of just how much you’ve overcome. And the biggest reward would be being able to wear what you want. So, eat smaller meals but do it more often. Join the gym or get into sports. Soon, you’ll see how much better you’ll feel from inside and out.

Refrain From Verbal Bloopers

Search Amazon.com for Personal Development assistance

There are certain words or phrases that people use unconsciously as fillers to a conversation or to pause for time as they gather their thoughts on what to say next. Many people can caught in the trap of saying something and meaning nothing. A common remark you will hear interspersed in conversations and presentations is “uh” or “hmm”. When we hear those interjections, we subconsciously filter it as an unnecessary noise uttered by the person but in essence meaning nothing. Sometimes, we use it to indicate that we are just searching our mind for the appropriate words or sentences to say next as our follow through on the conversation or presentation. This may be excusable in an ordinary conversation but experienced presenters should avoid saying these during their presentations. These and other similar meaningless phrases should be avoided as much as possible. Here are some words or phrases may be confusing to some people and you may wish to avoid saying.

“To be honest with you” or “frankly speaking” are phrases which do not add relevance unless you wish to emphasize that everything you said beforehand were deceitful and not candid. Some people contend that it may be used to create an intimate atmosphere with the person and indicate you are about to divulge a deep secret to the listener. This is a valid contention. However, not many people may be familiar with this idiom and might interpret it more as a confession that you were deceitful in your prior statements. It may be best to avoid saying this rather than take the risk of a misunderstanding.

“Kinda”, “sorta”, and “wanta” are slang words which have found their way into the common vernacular. These expressions are meant to show uncertainty to perform an action or lacking knowledge to express the correct concise words. Say, somebody asks if you are sick and you reply with “sorta”, it implies that you are not sick but you may be experiencing some symptoms of illness which you can’t define exactly. This may lead the person to grope for other words that may help you describe your feelings in a more precise manner. These replies imply your inadequacy of the English language and may cause your listeners to lose interest in whatever you wanted to disseminate to them. Avoid vagueness and try to be lucid.

“You know’ or “You know what I mean” are loose expressions that are heard quite often from someone who is explaining something. It is said without much thought and aims to be more of a speech filler while the speaker is thinking of what to say next. The common reaction of a listener would be to nod or blurt out a affirmative reply to the expression. This reaction does not necessarily mean that the listener “knows what he means” but rather as an indication that the listener is still focused to the speaker. Some people contend that it is an expression to test whether people understood what was said and provides the listener with the opportunity of seeking clarification. It may be best to leave out the phrase, pause and observe the reaction of the audience.

Select your words carefully. Be concise and precise in your statements. Avoid saying words or phrases that could lead to confusion and misunderstandings. Enhance your vocabulary skills or if you can’t find the right word, try to explain it in a clear and concise manner rather than saying words that add vagueness.

Making Your Dining Room Weight-Friendly

Search Amazon.com for Personal Development assistance

Sure, you try to eat right and exercise as much as possible, but it seems as if resisting temptations can also become too difficult. If you’ve tried everything but it seems as if nothing’s really working, you can start thinking about making big changes. First off, you need to work on your dining area. Diets fail not just because your willpower has become weak. So many factors come into play here. You now need to think about the environment you’re living in. You may have set up your home to be less friendly to all your health needs.

First of all, think about how you eat. Are you often in such a hurry that you stand up half the time? You actually need a chair to eat. This somehow implies that you won’t be rushing through your meals and that you’re giving your stomach time to signal to your brain that it’s had enough. Also make sure that you have a clock on your dining area. You need around 20 minutes before you actually realize that you’re full. Just think about the times you were in school and watching the clock so you know when the bell finally rings. This exercises those very same ideas because you need to be mindful of the fact that you should know when you’ve had enough before you get another helping on your plate.

Did you also know that bright lights actually encourage you to eat less? That’s because you are more likely to feel stressed when you see just how much you’ve consumed. Never dim the lights when you eat and make sure you see your hands reaching for the dessert. Or, you could also think about repainting your walls. People have made several studies on colors and the effects it had on people. Bright and warm hues actually aren’t ideal. These colors somewhat act as stimulants that’ll make you want to binge out more often. Go for neutral colors instead. If you don’t have the means to make a full change, try to balance it out with the right decoration.

Most importantly, never make the TV accessible when you eat. You are more likely to linger when you’re enjoying the show you’re watching. And you know what happens when you stay in front of the foods for longer periods of time? You lose track of the amount of food you’ve eaten while you get into the story of the show you’re watching. The very same idea applies to music.

The point here is to never make yourself too comfortable. Heat is a dieter’s ally. When you turn on the AC, you’re actually making your body think that it needs more fuel. That’s because your body requires more energy to survive in cold temperatures. Instead, just turn the unit off and see that a warm temperature actually represses your appetite. Eat on smaller plates and chew slowly. That way, you’re enjoying your meals but at the same time, keeping in mind your body’s limits.

Love the Job You Have

Search Amazon.com for Personal Development assistance

Of course getting out of bed gets tough. You don’t need to say goodbye to your boss forever and bid him adieu just to be happy with your career. Your professional life can go through its chares of ups and downs, and before you jump ship, think about what your options are right now. With so many companies holding firm on their hiring halts, you may put too many things on the line. Don’t feel trapped with your job if you look at things from a different perspective. Remember, there are always two sides to every story, and right now, you’re just too focused on one part.

Okay, so what if you haven’t had a raise in years? If you’re pay increase, along with everyone else’s, is axed from the plans, you need to stop complaining. Right now, your company had to do this in order for you to keep your job. Realize that and look for other ways to feel validated for a job well done. Set a new goal for yourself and work hard at getting there. If your boss sees that you’re actually motivating yourself to work harder, you’ll get the praises you deserve. Experts say that positive reinforcement works not only with children, but with adults as well. You know you’ve accomplished something, and that makes you feel more satisfied. Plus, with different companies downsizing, you really will have more on your plate. You will be valued once they see that you’re willing to do your share to help the company survive. Rest assured, once recession is over, you will also be the first to reap the rewards. Aside from that, you will get stellar recommendations from your supervisor. If you’re really strapped for cash, look for extra ways to earn money. Take an after-work job or start selling stuff online. Remember, you have a world of opportunities at your feet. With a little bit of research, you will definitely find ways to finance your indulgences.

So when others complain, it’s best that you keep your mouth shut. If you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all. Nonetheless, be there for your colleagues. Hear them out and help lift their spirits. Talk to them about your plans of earning extra cash and form partnerships with them. Remember, two heads are better than one. You can even improve on your plans when you have inputs from other people. Be their ally in a different way, and make them feel that if you just put your heads together, you can actually make the best of the situation you’re in.

Remember, your boss is also under a lot of pressure, even more than what you’re getting. Instead of dragging others down with you, try to understand the situation. Don’t take this personally and just let your coworkers know that you can be each others’ pillar of strength. That way, all of you can keep your emotions under wraps and the atmosphere at work will be so much better.

Get Focused

Search Amazon.com for Personal Development assistance

Focusing is a vital part of a person’s life. If you don’t get into the habit of being focused, you will have difficulty handling other aspects of your life, such as being in a vital meeting and you lose your concentration on what is being discussed. Every day we have to make decisions. We need to stay focused in order to understand the issues and make the appropriate decisions. It may be a simple matter of deciding what to eat or a vital issue involving the termination of several employees. Whatever the situation, we need to remain focused so that we can finish the work .

People tend to lose focus from time to time. However, for some people it can be a real problem. People tend to daydream during meetings particularly if the meetings are boring or do not concern them. You lose track of the discussions and your mind starts wandering and thinking of other things. If people suddenly ask you for your opinion, it is embarrassing to say you weren’t paying attention. Another reason may be if there were decisions made during the meeting and you weren’t listening when the decisions were made, how could you relay those decisions to your staff.  Aside from meetings, there may be other instances that your mind might drift and you lose concentration on your present situation.

We need to clear our minds and concentrate on the matter at hand. Try drinking some water. The movement and activity will disrupt your mind from wandering away. Think of what the persons said and summarize it.  Rehashing the discussion keeps your mind sharp. Ask for clarifications. Repeating the subject in a different light sometimes makes us understand it better. Take notes. Be careful because this could lead to a lot of nonsensical scribbling just to while away the time. Listen well to the discussions and write down the vital points. Give a summary at the end of the session based on your notes.  Aside from showing your interest and enthusiasm, you have the opportunity of revalidating whether you captured all the vital points brought up in the discussion.

Get involved in the conversation. The subject might not concern you but injecting a few comments and opinions along the way will help keep you on track with the discussions. Ask questions. Sometimes people assume certain aspects and fail to seek agreement on standard points. Asking questions could help ensure the validity of people’s assumptions. People will be impressed at your interest and enthusiasm.

Excuse yourself and go to the washroom. Washing your face and doing other hygienic essentials might help rouse you from your stupor. You might miss out on some topics during your absence but it may be worth it if you return more vibrant and energetic. You can ask them to repeat any vital points that were discussed during your absence.

If you start thinking of other important issues, write them down so you don’t lose track of them You can refer to the notes later after the current meetings and discussions are through.

Be a Work-at-Home Parent

Search Amazon.com for Personal Development assistance

You used to work in an office downtown. Now you have a baby. You had several options, such as hiring a nanny, sending your baby to a day care center and working at home. After a cursory look at the options, you decide to try out work-at-home. A basic assumption is that you are able to work at home, either by having your own business or being allowed by the company where you are employed to work at home. Being allowed by your employer to work at home is a rarity because of interoffice activities such as attendance in meetings and rush emergency jobs that need immediate resolutions.

Working at home provides flexible time and savings in time and money. However, this can all be lost if not managed properly. The main objective is to enable a person to continue their business while attending to the children. It involves entrepreneurship and parenting at the same time. There are several basic considerations which may help you to achieve both.

Get into a business that does not conflict with the children’s time. If your business time conflicts with the children’s feeding schedule or other chores, then a problem arises and one aspect will suffer over time. Flexibility in time loses its meaning when two jobs have to be done at almost the same time. You may need to set priorities and work around them. Your priority at the onset should be the child as there is no way you can forego the needs of the child. The child is dependent on you for its needs and any deviation will affect the child. The business on the other hand can be rescheduled and clients can be advised accordingly. Business clients are more understanding and reasonable once they realize you are a work-at-home parent and the child is your priority.

Build your business slowly and carefully. Try out the schedules and see how well you can work within the child’s schedules. You may need to do some adjustments until you come up with a good schedule for the child and for your work. Once you have established the schedules, you can build up your client base within your time framework.

Setting schedules with babies is easier than children. Inform the children of your plans to work at home and set out the schedules with them. Children may want to seek your attention very often and might eat into your work schedules. You need to be firm and resolute on your schedules. Remember that an objective on work-at-home is to maximize the time and effort required to take care of the children and at the same time handle your business. Devoting quality time to the children is a noble goal but you should not sacrifice your business as that’s where you earn your money to maintain the family.

There will be instances when business and children will be in conflict. Hopefully they will be few. Try to work out some remedy for the situation. Taking the children on business errands or rescheduling activities when the children are asleep are possible approaches. With the ready availability of internet functions, work-at-home is becoming more acceptable.

Adding Some Excitement to Your Career

Search Amazon.com for Personal Development assistance

Work oftentimes becomes too difficult that getting out of bed every morning seems like such a chore. Plus, you sometimes get nervous when you see your boss hovering around. You have to remind yourself that what’s important right now is that you just relax and your job right. Some bosses make the situation more difficult for you, but that’s not because he dislikes you. In fact, he purposely does this so you strive harder and become a better person. Of course, you don’t see that right away. You just think that there’s this person who’s making your day more unpleasant. But from his point of view, he’s simply raising the bar higher. Instead of sulking and complaining, you should go with the flow and push the envelope further.

The attitude is simply your boss’s way of filtering the tough ones from the weak links within the company. If you think that you’re smart and talented, then just continue with what you’re doing and realize that you do deserve this position. You may still make mistakes along the way, but so does everyone else. Hey, even your supervisor isn’t perfect. As long as you stay motivated, people will notice the fire that’s in your soul. It’s your attitude that gets you on top, and this is what will give you the guts to take risks that could actually fast-track your growth within the company. Just own up to these bloopers you make and understand where you did wrong. Look into the situation and see how you can fix it. People will always appreciate those who stay honest and true to themselves, and when you work hard for it, you’ll get the recognition you need.

You can also do better in your career if you avoid taking sick leaves. Admit it, there are just some days that you don’t like going to work. You feel fine but pretend that you have a temperature when you call in sick. While these leaves are part of your benefits, you can actually convert these to cash. Not only will you show the big dogs that you can be depended on, but you earn extra cash along the way. When you do fall ill, try to compensate for these days instead. This comes in handy when you don’t get any overtime pay, but you can actually offset the hours you’ve lost. Or, you can also use your vacation leaves instead. For most corporations, only sick leaves are convertible to cash.

Nonetheless, climbing the corporate ladder isn’t the only way to achieve success. When it seems that all that cash means nothing compared to the way you hate work, it’s time to think about a career change. Nowadays, working from home is actually possible, especially since the dawn of the internet. Think about what you’re most passionate about and turn this into a money-making scheme. Ask the advice of a friend or look for books that teach you how to turn your hobbies into a career. That way, not only are you doing what you love most, but you’re also on your way to success.

What Makes You a Better Person

Personal Development

There’s no denying that you know yourself more than anybody else. Nonetheless, there are also things that you aren’t always aware of. In your life, you’ll meet people that are either great or rude. But even your friends won’t always shower you with compliments. If you’re friendship is as deep as you think it is, these comments are in no way meant to make you insecure and feel bad as a person. They are just there to tell you the truth and present you with the facts so that you don’t repeat these mistakes. Know that everyone was born with quirks, and while you are generally a good person, you do have some bad moments. Instead of turning a blind eye, see the bigger picture and learn to grow from the experience.

If some of the people in your life tell you something unpleasant, don’t shun them out completely. Look at the situation and analyze why they were driven to take such drastic measures. If that person is simply doing it out of spite, then this isn’t a friend to begin with. However, when the intention to correct a mistake is there, know that while the delivery may have been a little rough, they also had good intentions. Be a little more forgiving when it comes to these things because the only way to grow is to also learn from past mistakes. Sometimes, you don’t get the clear picture, and you need a person to tap you in the back and tell you to be careful. You’d do the same things for them as well if the roles were reversed.

In life, people are working at bettering themselves. Success can only be achieved when you work through both your strengths and weaknesses. Hone the former while work at overcoming the latter. Ask your friends for advice and know why they think there are things you need to work on. By being open to even negative remarks, you won’t come to a confrontation. Instead, you’ll get a heart-to-heart talk where you’ll emerge from the experience feeling better about yourself because you now know what specific problems to address. While your buds don’t necessarily always know what’s best for you, you could also heed their suggestions. Who knows, some of these could actually come in handy.

Then, there are also those who are too polite to tell you anything negative. This can be tricky because letting the person open up can be tricky. The key here is to be casual about it. Be nonchalant about it and inject some humor to make the situation lighter. Or, you can make things better by asking them to state things constructively. In other words, give you the solution instead of pointing out the problem. When you connect the dots, you’ll get to the bottom of things and can now make the assumptions yourself. Always remember to be open about the things being said about you. Knowing the good and bad stuff helps you overcome your weaknesses as you work your way to becoming a better and more successful person.

Being a Great Friend

Search Amazon.com for Personal Development
assistance

You’ve been through rough patches before and your friends have always been there for you. When it’s there to turn to need comfort, you need to be there for them as well. Your friends have their own issues as well. If they’ve had their heart broken, sometimes words just won’t help. It’s difficult to pacify someone who can’t see things clearly just yet. Think back to when you were in a similar situation. All the words of wisdom didn’t mean much to you, and while you know there was some truth to what was being said, you just can’t be objective when emotions rule your actions. No one is immune to hurt, and they too need time to process the whole situation before healing can even begin to happen.

Right now, your presence may be enough for your friend, and they’ll definitely show their appreciation when they are able to think straight. Just make your friend feel that you two can be this dynamic duo. Accept the late night phone calls and listen to them while they moan and lament about the situation over and over again. After they’ve shared, help them make sense of the situation. You can act like the cushion that softens the blows they get. And when necessary, push them to get back on their feet. There’s a time to cry, but there’s also a time to move on. Your good behavior will definitely be rewarded when you’ll have your share of problems.

A loyal friend is a treasure, and you can be just that. But honesty is also just as important. When you don’t like the person you’re friend is seeing, you can voice out your thoughts without being too blunt. Ask questions or add a little humor into it. The point is, they ought to know their partners more and what you feel is just based on the times you’ve been together with them. Just let your bud know that they’re someone worth a lot and that anyone would be lucky to have them. Just be gentle and state facts. If you have the kind of friendship worth fighting for, you may get some negative feedback for your honesty. Expect that but let them simmer in their anger. In the end, as long as they know that you’ll always be there, things will eventually calm. And when you turn out to be right, your friend will appreciate you more than ever.

Aside from family, everyone needs that person to turn to when life gets a little bit too much. To have a healthy friendship, you both need to be each other’s support. The guidance you’ll provide will buoy them up when they feel like drowning. Enjoy the time you spend together and go out. Explore the area around you and keep each other entertained. You both can step out of your comfort zones when you know you have each other’s hand to hold. Make each other laugh and realize that life becomes easier when someone appreciates your sense of humor and your values.

Ways to Spend Days Leisurely

Search Amazon.com for Personal Development assistance

There are days when you just want to do nothing. Spend the day in leisure and not have to worry about anything else. Wouldn’t it be nice to be a child again, to be free of worries? While you do have responsibilities to fulfill, you also need to take a break. Those summer breaks you once enjoyed when you went to school may not happen again, but then, you also need to set aside time to relax. You may not have two months, but a week or even day already makes a world of difference. You can’t force yourself to have fun, but you can let yourself be open to the possibility. It’s all about living a day at a time so that when the fun comes, you get to enjoy every moment of it.

So, how do you get to relax? Here are just a few suggestions:

1. Sprawl in your garden and take a glass of piña colada. Just bask in the warmth of the sun and let the drink cool you from within.

2. Read a book you’ve been dying to finish and lie in the hammock. There’s something about it that makes you feel cuddled, and as you get into the story, you’ll soon notice that the gentle sway helps soothe you.

3. Prepare a sumptuous meal yourself. Rather than takeout, experimenting can be fun. It could be the worst meal ever or the best one you’ve tried. Just constantly experiment and one day, you’ll hit the jackpot and say you’ve prepared everything yourself.

4. If you don’t have a pool, try cooling yourself with the garden sprinkler. Ask a friend to join you so the experience could get even better.

5. Set up a picnic with friends. Just head over the nearest park, prepare a bottle of wine, and spend the afternoon on leisure conversation.

6. Check out your local library. You’ll be amazed at the collection you’ll find, and some of these books are no longer available in bookstores.

7. Play a board game with your pals. Make it more exciting and add consequences for when someone loses.

8. Bring out that karaoke and belt those cheesy tunes. See who does best. Even when it’s not your turn to hold the mike, you can’t help but sing to the top of your lungs.

9. Make a playlist of your favorite tunes and reminisce while you listen to it.

10. Make plans on how to achieve your goal. It’s always nice to see what it’s like to have a wish fulfilled.

These suggestions may sound simple, but the best things are the simplest ones. When you try out new things, take time out to be with those you love, and feed your soul, everyday will feel like a summer vacation. You just can’t worry about work 24/7. If you want to be a better person, you need to give yourself a break every so often. It’s all about being childlike and enjoying what you have rather than mulling over what you don’t.

Staying in Top Form

Why are you the person to beat? There’s just something about some people that makes them so appealing and enigmatic. When describing them, superlatives apply. The innate charm, the quiet confidence, the sincere heart, and a wit that could only come from a quick mind. These are but some of the many qualities that you can develop as well.  You can be hot on the radar if you work on who you are from the inside. Once you know that you’re a great person and that you deserve the respect you get, this confidence shows itself in your attitude. And that is something that can be more appealing that you can ever expect.

In life, you’re faced with challenges. To be a true winner, you shouldn’t be one to easily give up. You will go through your own moments of disappointments, but that shouldn’t stop you from moving on and pushing harder. Remain unfazed despite hurdles. Soon enough, you’ll have your opportunity to prove yourself. The most successful individuals in this world were the ones who had to try harder. Society doesn’t hand things to you on a silver platter. Instead, you need to earn your keep and prove to the world why you’re worth the praise.

Aside from that, you also need to take risks and be game for anything. Open yourself up to changes and accept challenges, even if it means stepping out of your comfort zone. Go through life with a positive mindset and know that you need to adapt to changes in order to survive. The world doesn’t revolve around you, but fate will work to your advantage when you learn to accept the fact that there are things you have yet to learn. You need to keep it real at all times. Feel what you feel and never hide who you are. When you are genuine with the people you meet, they’ll give back the same kind of respect.

To be a true success, you also have to know what your strengths and weaknesses are. Admit it: nobody is perfect and neither are you. Don’t force yourself to be something you’re not. Nonetheless, that also shouldn’t stop you from trying out new things. The world comes with an endless supply of opportunities, and you’ll need to more than a lifetime to explore each one. What you can do right now is be willing to see what’s out there for you, and if you find out that it’s not your cup of tea, then at least you’ve  tried it and you now know better.

It’s never easy to breeze through life. Everyone has to contend with their own share of trials and heartaches. What’s important is that you get past all the drama and live in the now. You can’t let what you’ve been through stop you from trying out other new things. Plus, these shouldn’t paralyze you as well.
