| You sometimes get stuck on the if-onlys, but the secret to moving forward is to live through the distress of disappointments past. So, what if you find that the loser you used to make fun of back in high school is now filthy rich. There’s nothing wrong with having regrets. If you’ve never made a mistake, you probably haven’t done much living. And, regrets can actually be helpful. They can show you how much you’ve grown as well as see where you still want to go. Regret is a very useful emotion because it kicks you and gets you moving. Of course, regrets can also hold you back if you get caught in the endless spin cycle of should-haves and could-haves. Okay, you may have spent your money on stupid things, and now, you’re drowning in debt. Shoes, concert tickets, dinners at fancy restaurants, name it, and you had it all. Now, all you have are big fat bills, with crazy-high numbers that still keep rising. As you try to drag those digits down, you’re missing out on some seriously awesome stuff. You may have skipped an out-of-the-country vacation or you passed on the chance to own that great apartment overlooking the city. Worst of all, you can’t even remember what you bought because the meals have long been forgotten and the clothes have faded out of style. There’s no doubt that digging yourself out of debt is a massive bore. But instead of kicking yourself for those frilly mistakes that clutter your home, take pride in the fact that you’ve learned one of life’s hardest lessons: don’t spend what you don’t have. Use this as a source of strength and let this lesson move you forward. Looking at past behavior that you’ve outgrown, but this is also very useful. It helps you recognize how far you’ve come. So instead of mooning over all the things you can’t have just yet, use your experience to develop the hardcore financial skills that will bring you a rich future. So, how do you make great choices? Don’t be too hard on yourself and ditch the pros and cons list. This can subvert your intuition. Next time you’re about to make a great decision, how about just trying to following your heart and trusting your guts? Take the first step and go for your plans. This is when you’ll realize if it could work or it could be the biggest mistake, but at least you won’t live your life wondering. You’re none the better than those who constantly live in fear. Take baby steps because you’ll see that sometimes, that’s when decisions make themselves. Don’t wait for magic to come to you. If things worked that way, people would never find true satisfaction. Sometimes, you just have to take that leap because the truth is, you can never be 100 percent sure of any decision. Instead, look at this new phase in your life as an adventure because that’s what it is. So, what if you’re trying to save more money? A little sacrifice will take you far, and you could even enjoy better things in the long run. |
