Write it Down

When you come up with an idea, it is a good practice to write it down. You can read it later at your leisure and think over the benefits and advantages of the ideas. What is important at the immediate moment is to put down what has just entered your head before it gets forgotten or relegated to the lower recesses of your mind. Ideas come and go in our head and with so much data passing back and forth, it is possible that what we thought about just a minute ago is totally forgotten in the rush of things. How many times has it happened that you get interrupted by someone or something while you are in the midst of a conversation with someone? When you turn back to the person you were talking to, you stare and ask the person, “what were we just talking about?”. Distractions are common occurrences which unfortunately, tend to disrupt your trend of thought. People accept distractions as part of their daily life and take little heed to its implications. Imagine if you had just thought of an ingenuous solution to your problems and suddenly due to an abrupt interruption, you get distracted and lose that precious trend of thought. You would probably rack your brains trying to recall your ideas. Some people have the knack of keeping track of their reflections while others have difficulties in keeping focused.

The key to keeping track of your ideas is to write it down. Carry a pen or pencil and some paper with you. If you think of something important, write it down as soon as possible. Avoid getting distracted at that moment. One way of getting used to writing down your thoughts is through brainstorming. Sit down and start thinking of ways to improve yourself, such as ways to improve your attitudes, earn more money, etc. and write them down. Spend 30 minutes daily to write 20 ideas and you will get used to writing down your thoughts. Not only that, but within a week you will have generated 140 ideas. Ideas will come quickly at the start but as the list builds up, it may take longer to come up with innovative thoughts. Just be sure to jot it down. Not all ideas are feasible or workable for some reason but you should still get into the habit of writing it all down. You can never tell when a good idea will come up and if you write it down, chances are you will notice it as you go through the list. The effort of writing it down is minimal considering the benefits that can be garnered from just one good idea.

Some good ideas come in a person’s sleep through dreams. Have a pen and paper at your bedside so you can jot down the dream and the idea upon you wake up. Sometimes dreams remain fresh in the mind upon awakening. Don’t lose that good idea as it crosses your mind. Get into the habit of writing it down.
