For some people, their jobs make their lives more meaningful. For others, they just go to work because it is what sustains them. Of course, you’ll have your good and bad days. When things get too tough or when you have too much on your plate, this situation can take its toll on you. Your coworkers are constantly complaining and your boss never seems to appreciate all that work you put in. While it would be nice to just drop everything and leave, you also have to think about your decisions. If you’re too impulsive, you may end up doing something you truly regret.
So what if you spend your day answering insignificant phone calls and filing tons of paperwork? You still have to do these things, but when it gets too tedious, set aside some time to also do something that’s meaningful for you. When you do the things you care about, you challenge yourself and feel good at the same time. Plus, you’ll also be a positive impact with the people around you. Spread good cheer around the office on ordinary days. What also helps a lot is doing some volunteer work outside the office. This makes you realize at the things you can be grateful for. If you want, ask your colleagues to go with you so they also get a taste on what it means to help others. This is a good way to foster team spirit and show the people around that you are a born go-getter who always tries to think outside the box.
And while your other friends seem to be breezing their way up the corporate ladder, you may end up feeling that you’re somewhat stuck in a rut. The truth is, if you aren’t really happy where you’re career is headed, you’re bound to seek fulfillment elsewhere. Hold on to the thought that you’re not going to be in this line of work for the rest of your life, but while you’re not yet there, use this time to plan. By picturing a bright future for yourself, this reminds you that you’re actually working toward something. This may not be the job that you like, but this is a stepping stone. That way, you know that you’ve already started on your journey, and while the trip is long and tedious, you’re actually getting there.
Write down a two-year plan and keep an eye out for opportunities elsewhere. Just hang in there until something presents itself to you. Do all the necessary preparations by updating your resume and joining seminars that enhance the skills you want to hone. Plus, establish a network of people who could actually help you. When the dream seems closer, you will be excited to move on to the next step. The point is that you explore and try out new things. Knowing what makes you happy makes the pursuit worthwhile. Never forget the fact that you deserve the best in life and if your dreams don’t come soon enough, you can still do something about your future.
