Lead Your Team to Win

If there’s one topic of conversation that men get into, that would be sports. Be it team or individual play, it’s undeniable that it teaches a lot of values that leads to eventual success. The trophy-winning performances can actually be translated into the cutthroat world of business. There are certain common values between business and sports.

Sports is all about competition either against yourself or against others. Discipline plays a key factor in making sure that you bring your A-game all the time. Have this type of commitment so you’ll be more prepared for the challenges ahead. Stick to your plan because this will set you apart from all your competitors. Aside from that, it is important that you learn to work with others. Work, like sports, requires you to trust in another to achieve the goals.

Moreover, in sports, the head coach is responsible in forming a winning team. They constantly check to see if certain members don’t fit. You will win if you don’t forget about your people. If every business executive remembers that, it’s the first big step. To evaluate if members in the business team are at par with your vision, follow a few questions you should ask them. First of all, ask them if they want to be here. Your job as the head of a team is to ask the difficult questions. This is the right opportunity to figure out the challenges that get in the way of your employee performing his best. This will also help you understand if they really want to be with you and the organization you all work for.

Next, ask them why are they here. By finding the reasons why your employee is with you, you’ll be able to find ways for them to develop their skills. Also, it’s an opportunity to find where they fit in your organization and where they can better be utilized. The next question is also pertinent here. It is imperative that you find out what success looks like to them. If you don’t have a clear picture of it in your mind right now, everything you don won’t mean much. It’s important that your employees have an idea of what success is to them. It gives you points on how to motivate them towards it or how to steer the company’s vision towards something everyone will believe in.

Moving forward is a must for every company. After you ask them all you need to know, you can also ask for their opinion. Their ideas may help the team move forward. After all, no one is perfect: even the top honchos have their own share of flaws. By letting your employees air their sentiments, you’ll also be able to realize certain things you can improve on. This will help advance your business towards glory road.

Remember, your efforts, combined with those of your teammates, grow into success more satisfying than your own. Have a sense of mission that reaches beyond the present because this defines the final steps to individual and team significance.
