How to Get Out of a Bad Mood

Nothing ruins a perfect day like being in a bad mood.  No matter how good the sun is shining, and no matter how good life has been to you, all will go down the drain simply because you are in a bad mood.  There are a lot of things you can do to get out of your rut.

The first thing that you can do to get out of your predicament is not to dwell on it.  The more you think about your bad mood, the more you sympathize with yourself, the more you will feel rotten and awful.  Divert yourself by doing a lot of activities around the house.  If your room needs cleaning, get up and do it.  You can have the pleasure of chucking the trash in the garbage can and think of it as the cause of your bad mood.

Groom yourself by taking a hot shower or spending some quality time in a tub.  Light up some scented candles and pour invigorating oils in your bath water and let it soak away your bad mood.  Sometimes, all you need to get your blood going is a good bath.  Since you are all groomed and nice anyway, why not head out and have some fun?

Think of your house as a vessel that collects and contains bad emotions.  The more you stay indoors, the more you will feel bad.  Put on clothes that brightly colored and not depressive, something that will uplift your mood.  Go out and have a day at the park, at the zoo, or enjoy a movie.  The more sun exposure you get the better.  Going out will help you meet a lot of people, and you can share stories of just how great the weather is for outdoor activities.

Call your friends and see if you can all spend the day together.  Tell them to bring something to cook and all of you will have a cook fest in a friend’s home or at yours.  You can use this time to reconnect with each other, or share stories on how each of you fight the blues.  If you are feeling really down, a close friend who you know will be there to listen to you will be enough to spend the day with.

If you are a member of a fitness club, now is the time to exploit it.  Head on out and have a good workout at the gym.  Workouts are a great way to get that natural high.  The more physical activity you do, the better for your mood.  It would be better if you had started that heavy bag training a couple of weeks ago.  You will be able to punch away your frustrations on that bag without worrying about risking bodily injury on some helpless individual.

Sometimes, feeling bad comes from bad eating habits.  What you can do is improve your diet by adding in vegetables and fiber, as well as increasing water intake while decreasing alcohol consumption and smoking.     Have a healthy sandwich that has lean meat, low-fat dressing, and greens grilled in an oven or broiler.  That will perk you up and sustain you for a couple of hours.

Try to see which mood lifter will do best for you.  If one does not work, you can always try out another remedy.  For some people, simply putting their thoughts down on paper helps to vent frustrations and alleviate bad moods. Other people find that hobbies or even watching a movie will lift their spirits. Experiment until you find your cure for bad moods. Do your best to stay out of the rut by being active and not dwelling on things that will make the day sour and dull.
